2008 ISA Rule changes - what the changes mean

ISA Rule Changes

Several important changes to the ISA regulations have been implemented by HM Treasury. The changes became effective from 6th April 2008. We have put together an overview of the changes below.

New subscription limits

From 6th April 2008, the overall subscription limit for an ISA has increased to £7,200, of which up to £3,600 can be subscribed to a Cash ISA.

Currently, TD Waterhouse only provides a stocks and shares account, the Trading ISA, which will adopt the new subscription limit of £7,200.

We are researching the option of launching a Cash ISA and will keep you updated on our plans in our regular newsletters, and here on our website.

Bringing PEPs within the ISA wrapper

From 6th April 2008 Personal Equity Plans (PEPs) ceased to exist, and are now treated as a Stocks & Shares ISA. These PEPs have been renamed exPEP ISAs.

Removing Mini/Maxi ISA distinction

There is no longer a distinction between a Mini and Maxi ISA. The Trading ISA at
TD Waterhouse has a simple, annual subscription limit of £7,200. It will be up to you as the customer to decide where you choose to invest your annual allowance.

Allowing a Cash ISA to transfer into a Stocks & Shares ISA

To help encourage share ownership, HM Treasury now allows you to transfer a Cash ISA into a Stocks & Shares ISA (the TD Waterhouse Trading ISA). We plan to be able to offer you this facility at this time.

We keep our customers updated on new products and changes to our services in our regular newsletters, and through our website. Please contact our Customer Services Team on 0845 607 6001 if you have any questions.
