Financial Spread Betting is an agreement between a customer and a provider to exchange the difference between the opening and closing value of the bet. Similarly, CFDs are an agreement between two parties to exchange, at the close of the contract, the difference between the opening price and the closing price of the contract.

The main difference between these two margined products is that profits and losses from Financial Spread Betting are currently not subject to UK Capital Gains Tax, however tax laws may change.

*Terms of the £100 Financial Spread Betting & CFDs offer:

The offer is only applicable to TD Waterhouse Financial Spread Betting and TD Waterhouse CFD accounts. Applicants must be 18 or over and UK resident.
The offer is not open to: customers who wish to open a TD Waterhouse Financial Spread Betting account and already have a TD Waterhouse Financial Spread Betting account or wish to open a TD Waterhouse CFD account and already have a TD Waterhouse CFD account; or any customer who has closed such an account in the 120 days preceding a new application; or any employees of TD Waterhouse.
Qualifying accounts must deposit a minimum of £500 and place at least one opening trade within 4 weeks of opening the account.
The £100 will be credited to the account within 5 working days of the trade being placed.
The offer is limited to one £100 credit per customer. In the event of the customer opening both a Financial Spread betting and a CFD account, the CFD account will receive the £100 credit.
In the event that you incur losses of greater than £100, the £100 deposited into your account may be used to offset your debt to us.
We will not be liable for any losses of more than £100 that you may incur as a result of trading with the £100.
The £100 is for trading/margin purposes only and cannot be taken out of the account as cash for a minimum of 3 months from the date credited to the account.
The account must be open and not the subject of any dispute or default on the date the Funds fall due to the account holder.
This offer applies to new accounts opened between 1st May 2008 and 22nd June 2008.
